Ministries

As you become a part of Jesus Christ's church you will have an opportunity to serve.  This is called ministry.  Ministry is doing. Each of us has special gifts and are called to serve in individual ways.  Spiritual gifts are varied and are not specifically defined in the New Testament.  The following is one possible list:

Administration

- to provide leadership & guidance in matters of organization & administration.

Apostleship

-the ability to begin a new work for the Lord

Craftsmanship

- the ability to work with one's hands to benefit others

Discernment

- a special ability to distinguish between the spirit of truth and the spirit of error

Evangelism

- the special ability to lead unconverted persons to a personal knowledge of Jesus Christ

Encouragement

- the ability to call forth the best within others through the ministry of understanding, encouragement, and counsel

Faith

- the ability to trust God beyond the probable and raise the vision of others

Giving

- the special gift to offer material blessings for the work of the church with exceptional willingness, cheerfulness, and liberality

Healing

- the special gift to restore health to the sick

Helping

- the ability to serve the church in any supporting role, usually temporal, though sometime spiritual

Hospitality

- the special ability to provide open house and warm welcome for those in need of food and lodging

Intercession

- the special ability to pray for extended time periods, on a regular basis and see frequent and specific answers to prayers to a greater degree than the average Christian

Knowledge

- Knowing a fact or the truth as it is directly revealed by the Holy Spirit

Leadership

- the special gift to motivate God's people, delegate responsibilities, and direct and inspire, so that the church's work goes on effectively

Mercy

- the Spirit-guided ability to manifest practical, compassionate, cheerful love toward suffering members of the body of Christ

Miracles

- the special ability to serve as human intermediaries through whom it pleases God to perform powerful acts that are perceived by observers to have altered the ordinary course of nature

Pastor

- the shepherding gift; one who guides, feeds, and guards 'his' flock

Prophet

- the ability to proclaim or preach the Word of God

Service

- the special gift to seek out needs of people (inside and outside the church) and implement plans to meet those needs

Teacher

- the special gift whereby the Holy Spirit enables particular Christians to communicate the truths of God's Word so others learn

Wisdom

- the ability to apply God's truth to life.
